Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) using the technology of Variable Pulsed Light, or VPL. and a topical photosensitizing agent (aminolevulinic acid, or ALA) provides excellent cosmetic results with very little recovery time.
In our clinical setting we have seen a significant improvement in mottled pigmentation, redness, telangiectasia, a reduction in oil production and sebaceous hyperplasia, a reduction in pore size, and the destruction of actinic keratosis. Especially noticeable post ALA . VPL. treatments are the overall tactile changes to the skin. Rough skin is not only visibly improved, but also has a noticeably smoother feel to the touch.
Our patients have seen discernible skin improvement with just two ALA . VPL. treatments. The A.K. patients who have previously used topical medications to destroy solar keratitic lesions have found these treatments (called Photodynamic Therapy, or PDT) much quicker and less cosmetically bothersome. Our photorejuvenation patients like the changes they see with PDT. Best of all, it reduces the number of visits for treatments by one-half.
