How does Skin Phototherapy work?
Most everyone knows that light appears in a very broad spectrum of wavelengths.

Cosmetic Lasers have been around for years. A Cosmetic Laser is actually a pulsed light - all of the wavelengths of light except one are filtered away.

Different wavelengths of light penetrate the skin to different depths.

Intense Pulsed Light delivers a very broad band of light - typically 500 to 1200 NM.

Pulsed Light delivers thousands of colors of light each application, but can be 'Filtered' to selectively deliver only the most appropriate wavelength - that would depend, for instance, upon whether you were targeting a hair follicle for removal, or if you were targeting Melanin to rid the skin of freckles. The point is - Pulsed Light can be used for a wide variety of treatments. There is no longer a need to buy multiple machines to do a wide variety of treatments.

Instead of a single burst of light, Pulsed Light devices deliver a series of short rapid pulses of light.

This insures that the target area of the skin (the chromophore) reaches the desired temperature, BUT with minimal side effects AND much less patient discomfort than traditional cosmetic procedures.

More pulses, at higher power and longer wavelengths, with longer delays between the pulses, means you penetrate more heat, deeper, while 'skipping over' and protecting the skins surface.

THAT is Variable Intense Pulsed Light - VPL™.

The ULTRA VPL™ from McCUE is the newest Intense Pulsed Light device available. The ULTRA VPL™ offers higher power and more flexibility than even the highest priced IPL systems.

"Simpler" or "Less Expensive" Pulsed Light devices do not typically offer enough power or flexibility. The result is poor results, undesirable side effects, and unhappy Patients.

VPL™ allows safe treatment on a considerably wider range of skin types. By precisely controlling the pulses, the delivered light energy can be more efficiently directed to the treatment site with minimal heating of the surrounding skin. VPL™ makes it possible to treat previously untreatable darker skin types.
